The race

Blafjallagangan ski race will be held at Blafjöll ski area (see location), 16th of march 2024. The race is in classical technique. Blafjöll ski area, which is about 30 min drive from Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, is especially known for its spectacular views and varied landscapes.

Blafjallagangan is now one of Iceland’s biggest cross country skiing competition each year.

The race is part of Euroloppet. Euroloppet is one of the biggest ski marathon series in the world with many long-distance cross country ski races in different European countries.

Distances:
40 km (17 years and older) (timecap: 20km must be complete in 2hr45min)

5km, 10km and 20km

Registration deadline: 15th of march 2024 at 4:00PM

Thursday 14th of March:
4pm – 6pm: Collection of bibs at Everest outdoor shop, Skeifan 6
Friday 15th of March:
4pm – 6pm: Collection of bibs at Everest outdoor shop, Skeifan 6
Saturday 16th of March:
09:00 AM: Start for competitors in 40 km
10:00 AM: Start for competitors in 5 km, 10 km and 20 km

Participation prizes and cake buffet:
2:30 PM: Cake buffet starts. Location: Sportcenter Fram, Úlfarsbraut 126, Úlfarsárdal
3:00 PM: Podium prizes and giveaways (participation prizes) will be handed out at the cake buffet
4:30 PM: Cake buffet ends.
All day, free admission to swimming pool Dalslaug, Úlfarsbraut 124, Úlfarsárdal

Travel:
For participants traveling from abroad, the best way to get to Iceland is via airplane. Nearest international airport is Keflavik international airport which is located about 50km from Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. Blafjoll ski area is located about 35km from Reykjavik city centre. 

From Keflavik airport there are different ways that can get you from the airport to Reykjavik city centre:

From Reykjavik to Blafjöll ski area:
There will be no direct transfer with bus to Blafjoll ski area. The best way to get to Blafjoll ski area is by car.

For accomodation we recommend that you stay in Reykjavik or surrounding cities (Kopavogur, Hafnarfjordur, Gardabaer, Mosfellsbaer).

For the first time in 2020, Blafjallagangan ski race is part of Euroloppet (euroloppet.com). The organizers of Blafjallagangan are proud to be one of the races in Euroloppet, which is one of the biggest ski marathon series in the world with many long-distance cross country ski races in different European countries.
